WHY JOKES? My nine-year-old son loves making up jokes. He used to tell really BAD jokes that weren’t funny because they didn’t have a punchline. Knock knock. Who’s there? Dinosaur. Dinosaur who? Just dinosaur. See what I mean? One day when I couldn’t stand it any more I sat down to explain to him how jokes work. I’ve always loved listening to jokes, but I’d never been very good at telling them. We came up with some simple instructions for different types of jokes, and within days we were writing dozens of original gags. Like this one . . . Knock knock. Who’s there? Dinosaur. Dinosaur who? Dino-saur you were home so we thought we’d drop in. That got me thinking about humour in general. I did some research into clowns, riddles and April Fools’ Day.
