The Rolling Stones-A Musical Biography
By: Murry Nelson
In July 1962 a musical group made its fi rst appearance at the Marquee Jazz Club inLondon. It was not until early in 1963, however, that the entire band, consisting of Mick Jagger, Brian Jones (d. 1969), Keith Richards, Ian Stewart (d. 1985), Bill Wyman (née Perks), and Charlie Watts, who had missed the debut and a number of other shows through the rest of 1962, performed together on stage at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor, Berkshire, outside London, playing rhythm and blues rather than jazz. After Brian Jones’s death, Mick Taylor joined the group but left in 1974; Ron Wood joined the band in 1976. Bill Wyman left the band in 1993. Bands were forming all overEnglandat the time, and the success of the Beatles, fromLiverpool, only accelerated those formations. Most of the bands didn’t stay together long, or they just became casual performers on weekends. [download]
